Welcome to Opera Magnifico

Opera Magnifico welcomes you to apply for an audition for our 2026-2027 season! Opera Magnifico is based in North/Central New Jersey and provides paid opportunities to emerging operatic artists (of all ages). We present Mozart through Verismo era operas and are proponents of the bel canto technique of singing. 

Auditions will be held August 21st 6-10PM & August 22nd 11am-5PM in Mendham, NJ or Gladstone NJ. Our season is anticipated to include a concert version of Madama Butterfly in February 2027 with chamber orchestra, a fully staged production of Carmen in May 2027, and additional concert and outreach opportunities throughout the season, including La Boheme in October 2026 with limited roles available. Rehearsals begin two-three weeks prior to performance dates for principles, and six weeks prior for chorus.

Titles under consideration include La Boheme, Madama Butterfly in concert, and Carmen. Productions will be performed with a chamber orchestra. All roles are available to perform or cover and payment is provided. While the exact stipend amount is not available at this time, it will be similar to what we have paid previously ($300-800).

Artists local to the tri-state area are favored, though limited host housing is available for select artists. Prescreening video is required and auditions will be granted on a rolling basis. Application Deadline: August 8th, 2026. There will be an accompanist fee due on the day of your audition.

Prescreening Requirement:

2 videos, preferably one in French and one in Italian for principles, though any language will be accepted

 

Audition Repertoire Requirements:

Principles: 4+ arias or art songs, 1 selection must be in Italian and 1 selection must be in French. It is preferable to have at least 2 Italian selections and at least one Verismo, Puccini or Verdi aria, though not required.

Chorus: 2+ selections including one in French or Italian.

 

In order to be considered for a role, artists must audition live.  Virtual applicants will be considered for chorus only. *Only former/current Opera Magnifico artists may be considered for roles with a virtual audition, however it is recommended to audition in person.
